Did you know that Kansas City is the only international United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Citys of Music in the United States? Come celebrate our city’s extraordinary musical heritage with Arts Alive at the Listyning Room, operated in connection with the Center for Recorded Music.

 This is not your typical listening party. You’ll help choose what we hear, then sit back and for a laid-back casual evening of recorded music as you’ve likely never heard it before.

 We’ll gather at 6:30 PM for pizza and a little democratic music-making. You’ll have the chance to vote on what we hear from a selection of recordings chosen by the Listyning Room experts from their remarkable collection. Then, settle in and let the listening begin.

 The Listyning Room is part listening room, part musical time machine. Its collection spans decades of recorded music and virtually every format, from the earliest recording technologies to today’s modern media. Rotating exhibits uncover beloved treasures alongside fascinating discoveries, offering a glimpse into the remarkable history of how we have captured, preserved, and experienced music.

 At the heart of the experience is the Listyning Room’s extraordinary six-figure, ultra-high-fidelity sound system, designed to reproduce recordings with astonishing clarity, richness, and depth. You won’t simply hear the music — you’ll experience it in an entirely different way.

 Music has always been one of humanity’s most powerful ways to connect — to communicate, tell stories, share culture, and create a sense of belonging. This evening is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and experience that connection together.

 Space is limited to just 50 guests, making this an intimate and very special Arts Alive evening. Come curious and ready to listen.

 Tickets are only $35. Please note: Arts Alive tickets are nonrefundable. If your plans change, you are welcome to give or sell your tickets to a friend.
