Stitches and Sacred Stories: Selected Works by Sandra Scott-Revelle

Four Corner Gallery, 208 W 19 St, Kansas City, MO 64108

5:00 pm - 7:00 PM

A unique adaptation of Anton Chekov's Uncle Vanya

Kansas City Actors Theatre

City Stage at Union Station

At the Four Corner Gallery we’ll enjoy Stitches and Sacred Stories: Selected Works by Sandra Scott-Revelle. The nationally recognized artist, who recently moved to Kansas City, weaves together storytelling and appliqué in order to feature individuals she refers to as “the lesser-known lights in the vast heavens of Black history.” Sandra researches the narratives of formerly enslaved people and prayerfully shapes their experiences into inspiring short stories and poems exhibited together with fabric art that “provokes thought and pricks the heart.” Heavy appetizers and drinks will be available at the gallery.

Then it’s a short jaunt to City Stage at Union Station for the current production of Uncle Vanya by Kansas City Actors Theatre (KCAT). We’ll attend the 5:00 PM performance of an exhilarating new version of the Chekhov classic that takes place in a remote country estate where nobody is happy, everyone is vaguely in love with the wrong person, and all dreams are just slightly out of reach. In Chekhov’s world, nothing really happens — and it’s devastating.

According to director Matt Schwader, “This unique adaptation, performed by a cast featuring many of KCAT’s core company members, captures Chekhov’s masterful blend of bittersweet humor and poignant insight. With this extraordinary ensemble, audiences will experience a truly special journey—one that celebrates the complexity, resilience, and beauty of the human spirit.”

Tickets are $45 per person and limited in number. As always, tickets are nonrefundable but may be given or sold to others if your schedule changes.
