Arts Alive: Ailey II at the Folly Theatre + Gallery Bogart

The next Arts Alive event takes us to the West Bottoms and downtown on Saturday, April 26th.  Guests will enjoy two crowd-pleasing events:  a new visual art exhibition at Gallery Bogart and a program of three dances (including a world premier!) by Ailey II at the Folly Theatre.   Tickets are $45 per person and participation is limited to 80 guests.

Meet us at 11 AM at Gallery Bogart, 1400 Union Avenue to view a new exhibition called One Bedroom Apartment, designed to make contemporary art more accessible while emphasizing the significance of small-scale works. Taking inspiration from Herb and Dorothy Vogel who built an extraordinary collection within the walls of their modest New York apartment the exhibition reinforces the belief that art is for everyone, and encourages collectors to bring contemporary art into their daily lives. Works by 17 artists from around the world are included.  See further details below.

At Gallery Bogart you’ll enjoy selections from McClain’s Bakery paired with soft drinks and water, with a cash bar available at the Folly.

We'll leave the West Bottoms at 12:30 PM to head to the Folly Theater for the 1:00 PM performance by Ailey II. Note:  Arts Alive guests will enjoy orchestra level seating.

About Ailey II
Founded in 1974 by Alvin Ailey, Ailey II has flourished into one of the most popular modern dance companies, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. The program we will see includes:

Luminous by Francesca Harper
Luminous pays homage to five decades of Ailey II and the artists who paved the way for future generations, chronicling stories and memories from significant periods where the company influenced the cultural landscape.

Down the Rabbit Hole by Houston Thomas
This world premier is a continuation of choreographer Houston Thomas’s Follow the White Rabbit and expands on the themes of its former of examining the relationship between humans and technology.

Revelations  by Alvin Ailey

Performed to African American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs, and holy blues, Alvin Ailey’s Revelations fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul. Since its premiere in 1960, Revelations has been performed continuously around the globe, transcending barriers of faith and nationality, and appealing to universal emotions, making it the most widely seen modern dance work in the world.
